Library

The school library isn't just a quiet place for books—it's the dynamic heart of our school where curiosity thrives! Our mission is simple: to help every student become an enthusiastic reader, a critical thinker, and a responsible digital citizen. We believe that reading is the key that unlocks the whole world, and we can't wait to share that journey with your child.

What We Do in the Library

Our program is designed to meet students where they are, from the youngest readers just learning to hold a book to our older students mastering research.
  • Storytelling & Literacy: We introduce students to diverse genres, authors, and cultures through read-alouds and book talks, helping them find books they genuinely love.
  • Information Literacy: We teach essential skills like how to use the library catalog, evaluate sources, and find reliable information for school projects. These are the building blocks of research!
  • Book Selection: We empower students to make independent reading choices based on their interests and reading level, fostering a lifelong habit of exploration.

Library Logistics: Visiting and Borrowing

Class Visits
Every class visits the library weekly for lessons, stories, and book checkout. Please encourage your child to keep track of their library day!

Borrowing Limits
We encourage students to borrow books at a level that fosters responsibility and independent reading.
  • Younger Students (K-1): Typically, students start by checking out one or two books until they get comfortable with the process.
  • Older Students (Grades 2-5): As students demonstrate responsibility, they may check out several books to support their learning and personal interests.
The most important limit is what your child can comfortably read and successfully return during their next class visit!

Returns and Renewals
  • Due Dates: Books are generally due on the day the student's class visits the following week.
  • Lost or Damaged Books: We understand accidents happen! Please let the librarian know as soon as a book is lost or damaged. We simply ask families to pay the replacement cost so we can get a new copy back on the shelf for others.

How Parents Can Help at Home

Your support is the most important part of our program's success!
  • Designate a "Book Home": Help your child choose a special, safe place for library books (like a sturdy backpack pocket or a shelf). This makes finding and returning books easier.
  • Read Together: Take 15 minutes a day to read with your child or have them read to you. This builds vocabulary and strengthens your bond.
  • Encourage Responsibility: Help your child remember to put their library book in their backpack the night before their scheduled library day.
  • Model Reading: Let your children see you reading—whether it’s a physical book, a newspaper, or a digital article.
